Time Magazine is reporting that Democratic Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado has become a significant figure in his party, navigating political challenges and leading candidate recruitment efforts. It said Crow, along with five other Democrats with national security backgrounds, recorded a video last November reminding military and intelligence personnel that they are not obligated to follow illegal orders. This video prompted President Donald Trump to call for their arrest and charge them with treason, leading to death threats against Crow and his family. A federal grand jury in Washington later declined the Justice Department’s attempt to indict the lawmakers.
Crow, a former paratrooper and Army Ranger, expressed anger at the President’s response, stating he would "lob them back." The magazine said this incident placed Crow in a strong national spotlight, following his role as a prosecutor in Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2019. His stature on Capitol Hill has grown, making him a go-to voice for Democrats on national security issues.
Time Magazine reported that Crow is helping lead candidate recruitment for House Democrats, prioritizing veterans and individuals with national security backgrounds. He believes these elections will demonstrate Democrats' ability to effectively campaign on national security while challenging Republicans on cost and corruption. Crow also indicated his party needs a "hard reset" before 2028, aiming to build something new rather than reconstitute past strategies. Last week, Crow and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Washington Democrat, successfully forced a House vote to halt the war in Iran, with the measure passing 214-208.
Should Democrats gain control of the House this fall, Crow is positioned to become a senior member of the House Intelligence Committee’s majority. He also has his sights on Colorado’s Senate seat and has not ruled out a future White House run.
