A Portland man has been charged with firearm offenses after multiple firearms were reported missing from the Portland International Airport. Terell Wayne Overton, 51, faces charges of felon in possession of a firearm and theft of a firearm following an investigation that began in June 2026.
The Port of Portland Police initiated an investigation after airline passengers reported their firearms did not arrive at their destinations. On June 28, 2026, a victim's report of a stolen firearm, which contained an Apple AirTag, led police to Overton and a black backpack.
Investigators executed a search warrant on the backpack, discovering a locked handgun case with the reported stolen firearm inside. U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford for the District of Oregon announced the charges.
Overton made his initial appearance in federal court yesterday and was released pending further proceedings. The case is being investigated by the FBI, Port of Portland Police, and the PDX Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Kerin prosecuting. A criminal complaint is an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
