Marcus Devonta Williams, 47, of Brookeville, Maryland, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court to 70 months in prison for his role as the Washington, D.C.-area distributor in a large-scale cocaine trafficking conspiracy. The operation funneled multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine from New York into the Washington metropolitan area.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro emphasized the severity of the crime, saying, “Marcus Williams played a central role in a cocaine trafficking pipeline that moved multi-kilogram quantities of dangerous drugs from New York into the Washington metropolitan area. He distributed cocaine to re-sellers throughout the region and profited substantially from that criminal activity.” Pirro added that the sentence reflects the serious harm caused by large-scale drug trafficking.

Williams pleaded guilty on February 4, 2026, to one count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. In addition to the prison term, Judge Amir H. Ali ordered five years of supervised release and a $150,000 money judgment. Federal prosecutors had sought a 78-month sentence.

The FBI initiated an investigation in summer 2024 into the conspiracy spanning Washington, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York. Williams served as the D.C.-area point person, receiving cocaine from co-defendant Daryl Smith-Winfree, who transported it from New York. Williams then distributed the drugs to re-sellers and individual buyers.

Evidence included four controlled cocaine purchases from Williams between February and April 2025, and surveillance documenting meetings with Smith-Winfree. On March 24, 2025, Williams was observed receiving a brown paper bag from Smith-Winfree in Wilmington, Delaware. The next day, Williams met Tavon Valentine Lee in Silver Spring, Maryland, where Lee was later stopped with approximately 257 grams of cocaine and a loaded firearm. Law enforcement also recovered over $33,000 in cash from Williams' vehicle and, during a June 3, 2025, search, found five to six ounces of cocaine, $31,000 in cash, and drug paraphernalia at his residence. Smith-Winfree was stopped the same day with about three kilograms of cocaine intended for Williams. Digital ledgers showed Williams was supplied 5.5 kilograms between January and February 2025, and he admitted accountability for at least five kilograms. Smith-Winfree was sentenced to 96 months in prison.
