Fairfax County has updated its Reston Snapshots platform, a GIS-based tool designed to track land use and development trends within Reston’s Transit Station Areas (TSAs). The update introduces a new Affordable Housing Hub, enhancing public access to comprehensive data on the area's evolution.

Reston Snapshots now features five topic-focused data hubs: Affordable Housing, Land Use, Transportation, Urban Parks, and Zoning Activity. The Affordable Housing Hub provides an overview of Comprehensive Plan recommendations and the delivery of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Workforce Dwelling Units (WDUs). Other hubs offer insights into development pipelines, traffic monitoring, urban park visions, and zoning application statuses, each supported by interactive maps, narratives, tables, graphs, and images.

The platform's primary goal is to transparently illustrate how the planning vision for Reston, as detailed in the Comprehensive Plan, is being implemented. It showcases the development of transit-oriented neighborhoods with public spaces and pedestrian connections that are safe, comfortable, and engaging. Periodic updates ensure the community can monitor approved zoning cases and transportation activities.

This collaborative effort involves the Department of Planning and Development, Department of Transportation, Park Authority, and Housing and Community Development.
