Sierra Club Florida announced a series of significant environmental victories achieved over the past month, highlighting successful efforts to protect state parks, wildlife areas, and local water quality. The organization credited its supporters for these "real, lasting wins across the Sunshine State."
Among the key accomplishments, Sierra Club Florida successfully advocated for the signing of the State Park Preservation Act, which establishes permanent legal protections for Florida's state parks. The group also thwarted a proposal that would have transferred 600 acres of the Guana River Wildlife Management Area to a private developer, preserving critical wildlife habitat.
Additionally, the organization played a crucial role in safeguarding Hernando County's water resources by successfully maintaining its local rainy season fertilizer ban. Jessica Wisdom, Development Director for Sierra Club Florida, emphasized the collective impact, saying, "These victories are YOUR victories. And they show what’s possible when we come together to protect what we love." She added, "But this is just the beginning. The threats to Florida’s environment aren’t going away—and neither are we."
