A Sweet Springs, Missouri, man, Jordan Derrick, 40, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple charges, including engaging in the business of manufacturing explosive materials without a license and distributing information related to their creation, with his online tutorials linked to a New Orleans terrorist attack and an explosion in Odessa, Missouri.

Derrick allegedly began sharing videos on social media by September 18, 2023, demonstrating step-by-step instructions for making various explosive materials. These videos were reportedly downloaded and utilized by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who conducted an attack in New Orleans on January 1, 2025, where improvised explosive devices (IEDs) consistent with Derrick's instructions were found but failed to detonate.

Furthermore, an explosion occurred at a private residence in Odessa, Missouri, on May 4, 2026. The occupant informed investigators that he manufactured explosive devices after viewing online tutorials believed to be distributed by Derrick. The investigation into the Odessa explosion is ongoing.

Derrick faces potential sentences of up to 10 years in federal prison for manufacturing explosives without a license and for each count of unlawful possession of unregistered destructive devices or components. Distributing information related to manufacturing explosives carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri emphasized that these are accusations, and Derrick is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
