MIT Technology Review is reporting on alumna Laurie Stach, who founded LaunchX in 2012. It said LaunchX is a for-profit entrepreneurship program that helps high school students develop practical skills by starting real companies during an intensive summer program. Stach, an MIT mechanical engineering graduate and Harvard Business School MBA, began the program with 30 students in 2013, and it now serves approximately 500 students annually through both in-person and online formats.
The publication also highlights several popular stories, including a fundamental flaw that leaves large language models (LLMs) vulnerable to attack. It said this flaw makes it easy to trick LLMs into performing inappropriate actions, such as detailing how to sabotage an aircraft's navigation system.
Separately, MIT Technology Review said Anthropic discovered a "hidden space" where its AI model, Claude, processes concepts, using a new technique to probe deeper into LLM workings. It also reported that a European fertility group is calling for limits on sperm donations, citing instances where donor-conceived individuals have found hundreds of siblings. Additionally, the publication noted that AI is more likely than humans to form biases when hiring, learning stereotypes from training and even creating new ones.
