Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine marked a week of significant developments, including the grand opening of the 171st Ohio State Fair with extensive new facilities, major economic investments, and a milestone in national defense manufacturing.
The week began with the ribbon cutting for the new Ohio Children’s Carousel at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus on July 25, 2026. This carousel, personally designed by the DeWines, features 30 Ohio-themed characters and is part of the Expo 2050 Task Force's efforts to enhance fair experiences. Governor DeWine said, “Fran and I think the new, permanent carousel will be a central gathering place for families at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. We created a carousel that is more than a ride. It’s a journey through the Buckeye State, and we think this hand-carved masterpiece will help Ohioans build memories for generations.”
On July 27, Governor DeWine observed Anduril's first Ohio-made unmanned combat aircraft roll off the production line at Arsenal-1 in Pickaway County, a significant step for national defense. The same day, the Governor, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced the approval of five projects by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority. These projects are set to create 1,429 new jobs, retain 1,561 jobs, and bring over $239 million in investments across the state, with more than $93 million in new payroll.
Further fairground improvements were celebrated with the opening of the 177,000-square-foot Ohio Agriculture Center, replacing two older structures, and the renovated Dairy Building, home to the iconic butter cow and calf since 1925. First Lady DeWine said, “Mike and I know that the Dairy Building is an historic place at the Ohio State Fair. Memories are made here — and will continue to be made here — for years to come.” The 171st Ohio State Fair officially opened on July 29, showcasing two new buildings, four renovated ones, the new carousel, an amphitheater, and a misting area.
Concluding the week, Governor DeWine sought approval for a $1 billion dividend to Ohio businesses from the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation on July 30, which would bring the total under his administration to $10.2 billion. On July 31, First Lady DeWine engaged with children in Fran's Kitchen at the new Ohio Agriculture Center, while the Governor and First Lady also planted trees at the Natural Resources Park, honoring native tree conservation and America's 250th birthday.
