The White House announced today that violent crime in the United States is continuing to decline at an unprecedented rate, with homicides on track to reach their lowest level in over a century during the first half of 2026. This progress builds on last year's significant reductions and fulfills a core promise of President Donald J. Trump's administration to restore law and order.

A new mid-year report highlights substantial drops across various crime categories compared to the same period last year. Homicides are down 18%, carjackings have fallen by 47%, motor vehicle thefts by 20%, robberies by 17%, and residential burglaries by 13%. Compared to the peaks of the past nine years, homicides are down 51% and carjackings have decreased by 73%.

Significant reductions were observed in major cities, particularly where the Trump Administration intervened. Memphis saw murders drop over 43%, Washington D.C. experienced a more than 42% decrease, and New Orleans reported a decline of over 32%. Los Angeles also recorded an 18% reduction in murders.

The administration attributes these results to its "relentless efforts to enforce the rule of law, back the police, and surge resources into communities." President Trump had pledged to make America safe again, and the data indicates his administration is delivering on this commitment.
