The U.S. Library of Congress has announced recent additions to its Chronicling America digital newspaper collection, a program that regularly updates with newly-digitized newspapers from contributors to the National Digital Newspaper Program. These updates provide public access to historical publications, delivered in batches containing multiple issues and titles.
Among the recent additions are the Pawtucket Gazette and Chronicle (Pawtucket, RI), covering 1850-1910, which featured local news, poetry, and world events. Also added are The Pascoag Herald and Burrillville News-Gazette (Pascoag, RI) from 1895-1897, and its related title, The Pascoag Herald, spanning 1900-1918. These Pascoag papers often included “Home News” on the front page and sermons on the second.
This ongoing digitization effort ensures that historical records remain accessible for research and public interest.
