Nathan Austad, also known as “Snoopy,” has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his involvement in a scheme to hack user accounts on a fantasy sports and betting website. The operation resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses for the affected users.
Austad pled guilty to one count of conspiring to commit computer intrusion on December 12, 2025. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams.
On or about November 18, 2022, Austad and his co-conspirators launched a “credential stuffing attack” on the Betting Website. This method involved using stolen username and password pairs, often purchased on the darkweb, to gain unauthorized access to approximately 60,000 user accounts where individuals had reused their passwords.
The hackers then added new payment methods to some compromised accounts, withdrawing existing funds. Austad and others stole approximately $600,000 from about 1,600 victim accounts. Access to these accounts was also sold on various “Shops,” with Austad directly controlling and profiting from his own shop named “Snoopy.” Austad also controlled cryptocurrency accounts that received approximately $465,000 in crime proceeds.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said, "Nathan Austad and his co-defendants hacked an online betting website to compromise the accounts of over 60,000 users by purchasing their already stolen credentials on the darkweb and utilizing their previous passwords from other websites.” He added that Austad’s sentence demonstrates the commitment of the DOJ, FBI, and federal partners to protecting online markets. Austad is the third defendant sentenced in this investigation, following Joseph Garrison and Kamerin Stokes.
In addition to the prison term, Austad, 21, of Farmington, Minnesota, was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $463,684.48 in forfeiture and $1,327,061 in restitution.
