The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged detainers for two brothers, identified as illegal aliens, following their arrest in connection with a fatal shooting at a Florida construction site. The incident, which occurred on March 4 in St. Johns County, resulted in one death and two injuries.
Yovany Diego Lopez Cobo, an illegal alien from Guatemala, is accused of fatally shooting construction worker Joseph Manfredi and injuring two others after an argument. Cobo faces charges of second-degree murder with a firearm and two counts of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. His brother, Armando Manuel Lopez Cobo, was subsequently arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder with a firearm.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said, "These criminal illegal aliens from Guatemala both came to the United States illegally as minors and were released by the Obama Administration." Bis added, "Now Joseph Manfredi – a husband and a father – is dead because of these monsters who NEVER should have been in our country. ICE has lodged detainers for both of them with our Florida partners to ensure these illegal aliens are never again loose on American streets." Both brothers reportedly entered the United States illegally as minors in California in 2016 and were released by the Obama Administration.
