The Social Security Administration (SSA) today announced the issuance of a first-of-its-kind commemorative Social Security card for children born in the United States between July 2 and December 31, 2026, to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary of independence. These limited-edition cards will feature the official Freedom 250 logo in black ink and will function identically to standard Social Security cards.
The special cards will be issued through the existing Enumeration at Birth (EAB) program, which allows parents to request a Social Security number during the birth registration process at hospitals, birthing centers, or with licensed midwives. Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said, "Freedom 250 is a celebration of America’s storied history and the monumental moments that have shaped our nation, including the creation of Social Security over 90 years ago." He added, "The next generation of Americans born during this historic year will receive limited-edition Social Security cards bearing the Freedom 250 logo. Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, we are strengthening Social Security, improving service, and building an SSA to serve Americans today and in the future."
This commemorative designation is exclusive to original cards issued via the EAB program for newborns within the specified period. Replacement or duplicate cards, regardless of birth date, will not carry the Freedom 250 logo. The SSA confirmed these commemorative cards will be produced at no additional cost to families or taxpayers and urged vigilance against scams requesting payment for these cards.
