Governor Michael Dunleavy has formalized a partnership with the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies (TSC) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which designates the Governor of Alaska as the State of Alaska Arctic Chair for the Center. This agreement establishes a unique collaboration between the State and the Department of War's newest Regional Center, aiming to advance discussions on Arctic security, defense, and regional priorities.

Under the terms of the MOU, Governor Dunleavy will serve as the inaugural Arctic Chair for the remainder of his current term. This appointment highlights Alaska's crucial role as the sole Arctic state in America and its leadership in shaping national Arctic policy. Governor Dunleavy said, "Alaska is at the forefront of the opportunities and challenges that will define the future of the Arctic. This partnership with the Ted Stevens Center ensures Alaska's voice, our knowledge, and our priorities are at the table as our nation addresses the growing strategic importance of the Arctic."

The Arctic Chair position will enable Governor Dunleavy to offer strategic insights on emerging Arctic issues and foster cooperation among various partners, including federal, state, local, Indigenous, academic, and international entities. U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Randy “Church” Kee, Director of the Ted Stevens Center, emphasized, "As America’s Arctic state, Alaska brings unparalleled experience, expertise, and leadership to these discussions. We are honored to have the Governor serve as the first State of Alaska Arctic Chair." The Ted Stevens Center acts as a global hub for Arctic security studies, bringing together diverse stakeholders to address regional challenges.
