A Salem, Oregon, man has been charged with kidnapping and attempted abusive sexual contact in Tillamook County, with authorities seeking additional potential victims. Gene Arnold McLenithan, 58, faces federal charges following an alleged incident on July 4, 2024.
According to court documents, McLenithan allegedly kidnapped two victims around midnight while they were camping along a public hiking trail in Tillamook County. He reportedly bound the victims, covered their eyes, and later informed them of his plan to sexually assault them. The victims did not know McLenithan prior to the alleged incident.
McLenithan made his initial appearance in federal court today and was ordered detained pending further proceedings. The FBI is investigating the case with assistance from the Tillamook County and Clackamas County Sheriff’s Offices. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kate Rochat is prosecuting the case.
