It said this follows the collapse of trade talks between the two countries, with businesses hoping for swift domestic support. Conservative MP Shuvaloy Majumdar has urged Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc to release the full details of the proposed trade deal that was on the table before talks failed. President Donald J Trump commented on the deepening dispute, stating Canada "wants the benefits" of being a U.S. state "without being one."
The CBC also reported a surge in planned or under-construction AI data centers across Canada, which is generating controversy among communities hesitant about the large facilities.
Separately, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation said Alberta recorded the highest number of grizzly bear deaths in 2024, with 40 bears killed by people. It noted that 21 of these deaths were carried out by law enforcement, marking the only year where more than half of the total mortalities were attributed to law enforcement.
