The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will host a virtual public meeting to discuss its proposed “Modernizing Package Certification Requirements” rule, which addresses transportation and was published in the Federal Register on July 27.
NRC staff will provide an overview of the proposed rule, discuss related implementation activities, and answer questions from participants. The meeting is scheduled for August 5, from 1:30-3 p.m. Eastern time.
Interested individuals can attend the meeting online. The NRC, an expert technical agency, protects public health, safety, and security by regulating the civilian use of nuclear materials, including enabling nuclear power deployment.
The agency also issues licenses, conducts inspections, enforces regulations, and plans for incident response. It is collaborating with interagency partners to implement reforms from new Executive Orders and the ADVANCE Act to streamline activities and enhance efficiency.
