Raaw Energy has announced a voluntary recall of several dog food products manufactured between July 17, 2025, and December 23, 2025, along with a specific batch of Beef and Turkey Medley dated March 31, 2026, due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This action follows testing by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, which identified bacterial presence in some finished products, prompting the recall out of an abundance of caution as not all products from the period were tested.

Listeria monocytogenes poses a significant health risk to both pets and humans. Infected pets may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, fever, and lethargy, with severe cases potentially leading to meningitis, abortion, or death. Even asymptomatic pets can carry and spread the bacteria through their feces and saliva. Humans handling contaminated food or surfaces without proper hygiene can experience nausea, vomiting, aches, fever, and diarrhea, with severe infections potentially spreading to the nervous system and causing meningitis. Pregnant women, the young, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable.

The recalled products, packaged in 2-pound or 5-pound clear plastic tubes and sold frozen in brown cardboard boxes, were distributed to customers in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Consumers are strongly advised to immediately discard any affected products to prevent illness. The company has provided a comprehensive list of specific product types and date codes, which can be found on the white stick-on labels of the cardboard boxes.

In response to the recall, Raaw Energy has temporarily ceased all dog food production effective May 21, 2026. The company plans to evaluate current issues, resurface key areas for improved sanitation, thoroughly clean and treat drains and sewer lines, and enhance cleaning efforts on evaporators. Future plans include strengthening quality control measures and purchasing a pathogen detection system to test every batch. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. As a small business, we are committed to doing the right thing and correct any issues," Raaw Energy said. The company appreciates patience as it implements these improvements to ensure product safety and quality.
