On September 29 at 11 p.m., officers responded to Route 28 near Route 50 for reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle. Preliminarily, CRU detectives determined Fiona Hagengimana, 32, of Fairfax, was walking in the northbound lanes of Route 28 just north of Route 50 when she was struck by a vehicle. Several additional vehicles subsequently struck Hagengimana. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At least two drivers remained at the scene. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and identify the initial striking vehicle and driver. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
