Chronicling America has been updated with newly-digitized newspapers from contributors to the National Digital Newspaper Program. These digitized newspapers are delivered in batches, each containing issues from one or more newspaper titles. Recent additions can be found on the Chronicling America Research Guide.
An exciting addition from the Library's collections is a set of titles from New York, including the Daily Advertiser (1787) and the New-York Journal (1787-1788). These newspapers printed the Federalist Papers, a collection of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison, lobbying for the adoption of the Constitution. Federalist Essays 1-51, 54, and 55, are linked in the Federalist Essays in Historic Newspapers research guide. The issues surrounding the essays contain anti-federalist essays and commentary about both sets of essays.
Other recent additions to Chronicling America include the Atlanta Daily World (1932-1963), serving the African American community of Atlanta; The Daily Cincinnati Republican, and Commercial Register (1823-1837), established as a political newspaper in support of Andrew Jackson and slavery; and The Kentucky Gazette (1789-1803). Also added were the Gadsden County Times (1928-1960), The Mountain Echo (1894-1929), Newport Navalog (1944-1963), Przewodnik Katolicki (1908-1920), The Telescope (1813-1817), Toledo Union Journal (1942-1963), and The Unconditional Union (1864-1866).
