NOAA and USAF have released a joint report detailing moderate solar activity and quiet geomagnetic conditions over the past 24 hours, with forecasts indicating low solar activity and potentially active geomagnetic fields in the coming days.
The report, issued on September 4, 2026, noted six sunspot regions currently on the solar disk. Solar activity is predicted to remain low for September 5-7, with a slight 20% chance of an M-class flare occurring each day.
The geomagnetic field, which experienced quiet levels with solar wind speeds peaking at 413 km/s, is expected to continue at quiet levels on September 5 and 6. However, the forecast suggests a shift to quiet to active geomagnetic levels on September 7. Probabilities for a minor storm at middle latitudes are 1% for September 5-6, increasing to 10% on September 7. High latitudes face a 20% chance of a minor storm on September 5 and 7, and 15% on September 6.
