The Port of Oakland reported that its year-to-date loaded cargo volumes through July 2026 remained largely stable, showing a slight 1.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2025, with full exports even seeing a modest 0.4% increase. However, July itself presented a more challenging picture, with total volume down 11.4% from July 2025.
During July 2026, the Port handled 179,999 TEUs, a figure consistent with June's performance. Full imports for the month totaled 79,426 TEUs, marking a 14.0% decline year-over-year, while full exports reached 60,005 TEUs, down 8.5% from July 2025. The Port also saw a reduction in vessel calls, with 81 recorded compared to 95 in July of the previous year.
Year-to-date, the Port has processed 1,294,664 total TEUs, a 3.8% decrease primarily attributed to an 11.4% drop in empty container movements. "July was a challenging month compared to last year, but our laden volumes remain essentially flat year to date and exports are slightly ahead of 2025," said Port of Oakland Acting Maritime Director Jason Garben. He added, "Despite uncertainty in the market, we are hearing a positive outlook from our ocean carrier partners for the remainder of the year."
