A Minneapolis man, Havion Eddie Amaru Holmes, 24, was sentenced to 90 months’ imprisonment on June 16, 2026, after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting a violent carjacking that resulted in serious bodily injury to victims, U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen announced.
According to court documents, on August 24, 2024, Holmes and another male, both armed with handguns, approached a parked vehicle in Minneapolis occupied by a man and a woman. The victims were pulled from their vehicle and struck with firearms; the man was hit in the neck and back, and the woman twice in the head and then in the nose. Holmes and his accomplice then stole the vehicle.
Law enforcement quickly located the stolen vehicle and initiated a high-speed pursuit through a residential area after Holmes and the other man fled. The chase ended when the car crashed into another vehicle, and both suspects fled on foot. Officers apprehended Holmes shortly after, finding a tool and screwdriver on him. The two handguns used in the carjacking were discovered nearby, in Holmes’ flight path from the crash site.
The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Minneapolis Police Department and the FBI. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeanne Semivan prosecuted the case.
