Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) anticipates a significant surge in Labor Day weekend travel, expecting over 140,000 passengers between Thursday, September 3, and Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Concurrently, OAK has partnered with iHeartRadio to launch its first-ever “OAK Suitcase Party” giveaway, offering two lucky travelers an all-expenses-paid trip to the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.
The busiest travel days are projected to be Thursday, September 3, for departures, and Monday, September 7, for returns. Airport officials advise passengers to arrive early, allow extra time for parking and security, and check with their airlines for updated trip information. Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland, said, “As travelers head out for the final holiday weekend of the summer, OAK is ready to welcome guests with the convenient, affordable, and stress-free experience that OAK is known for.”
The “OAK Suitcase Party” promotion will culminate in a live event at OAK’s Terminal 2 Baggage Claim, where 25 qualifiers will arrive with packed bags, unaware of who will win. One winner and a guest will immediately depart for the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, featuring artists like BTS, Cardi B, and Snoop Dogg. Simon added, “Partnering with iHeartRadio on this unique experience highlights the excitement of travel and the memorable journeys that begin at OAK.”
In preparation for the holiday traffic, OAK has also completed modernizations of public restrooms in Terminal 1 and introduced new dining and retail options in Terminal 2, including Trader Vic’s and Plum Market. These improvements aim to enhance comfort and convenience for all travelers, as OAK continues to invest in facility and concession enhancements.
