A Clovis man was arrested on federal charges after allegedly posting threatening comments on Facebook targeting a Lubbock Pride Fest 2026 event. Michael Kenneth Thompson, 44, was taken into custody by the FBI on June 28, 2026, following an investigation initiated by an anonymous tip.
Thompson allegedly posted comments on June 27, 2026, on the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's Facebook page, referring to the Pride event as “hunting season” and “target practice.” He also commented that he did not need help, “just more ammo!” The FBI National Threat Operations Center identified the account and traced the activity to Thompson in Clovis, New Mexico.
Local law enforcement contacted Thompson, who admitted to making and later deleting the comments. He is charged with interstate threatening communications and remains in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for July 1, 2026. If convicted, Thompson faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the arrest. The Roswell Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with assistance from the Clovis Police Department.
