Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is set to assume the role of LA Metro Board Chair, where she will outline her strategic priorities for the transit agency. Speaking at Metro’s State of the Agency Address on Wednesday, July 22, Mayor Bass will focus on enhancing safety, affordability, and reliability, alongside preparing for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Mayor Bass emphasized her vision for accessible public transit. "Transit is one of the most powerful tools we have to change lives. I’m deeply honored to take over as LA Metro Board Chair to accelerate our work to make public transit so affordable that it is the obvious and sustainable choice for people’s pocketbooks and daily lives," said Mayor Bass.
She further stated her commitment to a fare-free future, noting, "Every student, every worker, every family should always be able to afford a safe, reliable ride. We already provide free and reduced fares for those who need them most, and I will work to develop a long-term financial strategy for Metro to eventually be a fare-free system." Bass believes this approach will create opportunities, jobs, and support local businesses.
