Champion Foods LLC of New Boston, Michigan, has voluntarily recalled certain batches of its Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread due to potential Salmonella contamination. This action follows a broader recall of milk powder by California Dairies, Inc., which supplied an ingredient to Champion Foods.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The recalled milk powder was used in a seasoning blend provided by a third-party manufacturer for the 5 Cheese Bread's sauce.
Despite routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer showing negative results for Salmonella, Champion Foods LLC initiated the recall out of an abundance of caution for consumer safety. To date, the company has not received any reports of illness or injury related to these products.
