The District of Columbia Government will host its annual LGBTQIA+ Flag Raising Ceremony today, June 1, at 4:00 PM, marking the official start of Pride Month in Washington, DC. The event, held on the steps of the John A. Wilson Building, also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs.

Mayor Bowser and the DC Council will participate in the ceremony, which symbolizes visibility, resilience, progress, and the District’s ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion for its LGBTQIA+ residents. Community leaders, Legacy Award honorees, former Directors, and Advisory Committee members are expected to attend, joining residents in a shared celebration of pride and unity.

Following the flag raising, a reception will take place featuring music from DJ Cake Pop! and refreshments from Spark Social. The event aims to be a vibrant and fun evening for all participants.
