The State of Alaska has secured a significant legal victory in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, affirming its right to require disclosure of oil well data. The court ruled in favor of the state in the case of ConocoPhillips Alaska v. Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (AOGCC), agreeing that Alaska's laws mandating data transparency are not preempted by federal law.

Acting Alaska Attorney General Cori Mills emphasized the state's dual role. "Alaska relies heavily on our resources and resource development," Mills said. "We are also stewards of those resources for the citizens of Alaska." She added that Alaska's law supports both current resource development and future exploration.

Mills expressed satisfaction with the Ninth Circuit's decision, stating, "We’re pleased that the Ninth Circuit recognized that federal law has not overridden Alaska’s balanced approach." This ruling reinforces Alaska's ability to manage its vital oil and gas resources while promoting transparency and future development.
