House Democrats actively worked throughout August to address key issues for working families, focusing on lowering costs, reforming healthcare, and ensuring accountability, according to Congresswoman Katherine Clark.
Clark highlighted efforts to protect Head Start programs, which Republicans allegedly sought to eliminate or weaken. She said, "I will not allow Republicans to auction off our children’s future to enrich the billionaire class, and I’m proud to have partners in that fight across the Commonwealth." She joined Governor Maura Healey, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, and early educators at ABCD Malden to oppose these proposed cuts.
The Congresswoman also participated in a House Democrats' field hearing to investigate the killing of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero by an ICE agent. Clark emphasized the need for justice for Guerrero's family and called for significant changes to immigration enforcement, stating, "I will not let up until this state-sanctioned terror is brought to an end and its enablers are held accountable."
Additionally, House Democrats observed the 91st anniversary of Social Security with a national Day of Action, defending the program against what they described as GOP attempts to dismantle seniors' retirement security for tax cuts. Clark also engaged with local advocates and community leaders across Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District, discussing clean energy, healthcare access, scientific innovation, and combating childhood hunger. Democrats anticipate winning back the House in November to advance their agenda for an affordable America.
