San Pedro Bay Ports to Update on Clean Air Action Plan Progress

The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles will provide a progress update on the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) on Tuesday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to noon, detailing their collaborative efforts toward a zero-emissions future.

The meeting, held at Banning’s Landing Community Center in Wilmington, CA, will cover updates on the ports’ Clean Truck Program, Clean Marine Fuels Feasibility Assessment, and workforce assessment. While participation is in-person only, proceedings will be livestreamed for public viewing.

Updated in 2017, the CAAP is a comprehensive strategy designed to accelerate progress toward zero emissions while maintaining the ports’ competitive standing. Since its original approval in 2006, port-related air pollution emissions have seen significant reductions: diesel particulate matter is down 90%, nitrogen oxides 70%, and sulfur oxides 98% since 2005.

The 2017 CAAP also introduced targets for reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs), aiming for a 40% reduction below 1990 levels by 2030 and an 80% reduction by 2050. The ports will accept in-person public comments at the advisory meeting to gather input on CAAP implementation.
