Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano recently engaged with New York-area tax professionals at the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum in New York City, discussing key tax administration topics including the implementation of Trump Accounts and guidance for the Working Families Tax Cuts. This meeting is part of an ongoing effort to gather feedback and improve the tax collection process.

Bisignano emphasized the vital role of tax practitioners, stating, "The input and feedback that the IRS receives from tax practitioners improves the tax collection and administration process." He added, "Tax professionals play a critical role in our tax system by providing an important link between the Service and the taxpaying public, helping them to understand and meet their tax obligations." Discussions also covered insights from the successful 2026 tax filing season and expectations for 2027.

Orumé Hays, President-elect of the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, highlighted the strong relationship, saying, "Meeting with the CEO demonstrates the strong relationship between the IRS and the stakeholder community." She noted the collaboration fosters open communication and strengthens mutual understanding for effective tax administration. The 2026 filing season saw over 144 million income tax returns processed, with 98 percent of refunds delivered electronically and an 11 percent increase in average refunds due to the Working Families Tax Cuts.

The IRS CEO and leadership plan to continue these engagements with taxpayers and professionals to gather further feedback, aiming to enhance tax administration both now and in the future.
