Fairfax County Police have arrested a 19-year-old Alexandria man in connection with a non-fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday in Groveton. Rusbel Alberto Argueta was taken into custody following the incident on July 28, at 7:04 p.m., in the 7200 block of Fairchild Drive.

Officers responded to the scene and found a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body. He was transported to a local hospital where he remains hospitalized. Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau determined that a verbal argument preceded the shooting, and a firearm was recovered nearby.

Argueta faces charges including Malicious Wounding, Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Discharge Firearm within 1000 Feet of an Elementary School, and Emergency Protective Order. He is currently held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Victim specialists are providing resources and assistance to the victim.
