Fairfax County Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early this morning near Huntington, involving two vehicles, one of which fled the scene. The incident, which resulted in the death of an Alexandria man, happened at approximately 1:43 a.m. at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Fort Hunt Road.

Detectives determined that Jerry Harris, 64, of Alexandria, was walking on Richmond Highway outside of a crosswalk when he was first struck by a northbound 2019 Nissan Rogue. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene. Subsequently, a northbound 2018 Toyota Rav4 also struck Harris before fleeing. Harris was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Through their ongoing investigation, detectives successfully identified and located the Rav4 involved. Preliminary findings suggest speed was not a factor in the crash, though alcohol use by the pedestrian remains under investigation. Victim specialists are providing support to Harris's family. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Solvers.
