The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced changes to the operational status of its local offices, card centers, and hearing offices across Michigan.

Residents are encouraged to check the current status of their local office online before planning a visit, as many common services can now be completed digitally without the need for an in-person appointment.

The SSA highlights a range of popular online services available, including reviewing personal information such as latest statements and earnings history, estimating retirement benefits, and checking application statuses. Individuals can also apply for various benefits online, including retirement, disability, and Medicare, or appeal medical decisions.

Furthermore, the SSA's online portal allows users to manage their accounts by changing addresses, setting up or modifying direct deposit, and printing proof of benefits or their 1099 forms. For assistance, frequently asked questions are available, and requests for replacement Medicare or Social Security cards can also be handled digitally. The agency encourages users to create a personal "my Social Security" account to access these benefits.
