Breaking Defense is reporting that the long-delayed M-code GPS signal technology is making new progress. It said that after years of setbacks, receivers designed for ships and planes are expected to complete testing by 2027. The M-code signal is designed to be more resistant to jamming and spoofing than current GPS signals. The program, which has spanned three decades, aims to equip approximately 700 different types of cross-service weapon systems, including Army ground vehicles, Navy destroyers, Air Force fighter jets, and Marine radios, with as many as a million new receivers. Breaking Defense noted this advancement comes as adversary capabilities to jam and spoof existing GPS signals continue to improve.
