The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (OIG) has conducted an audit of the Postal Service's employee background screening process, examining how security clearances are granted to new hires.
This audit covers the period from fiscal years 2023 through 2025, during which the Postal Service onboarded 371,937 employees nationwide. All new hires are subjected to background screening to ensure suitability for their positions and to maintain the agency's integrity. The OIG's assessment aimed to determine the effectiveness of this vetting process.
