IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano recently met with New York-area tax professionals at the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum in New York City to discuss improvements in tax administration and review the successful 2026 filing season.

Bisignano underscored the vital role of tax practitioners, stating, "The input and feedback that the IRS receives from tax practitioners improves the tax collection and administration process." Key topics included the implementation of Trump Accounts, guidance related to the Working Families Tax Cuts, and lessons learned from the 2026 filing season, alongside expectations for 2027.

The 2026 filing season successfully processed over 144 million income tax returns, with 98 percent of refunds delivered electronically. The average refund saw an 11 percent increase over the prior year, attributed to the historic Working Families Tax Cuts. Orumé Hays, President-elect of the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, praised the collaboration, saying, "Meeting with the CEO demonstrates the strong relationship between the IRS and the stakeholder community."

IRS leadership plans to continue these engagements with taxpayers and tax professionals to gather feedback and enhance tax administration now and in the future.
