A Fruitland man, Timothy Begay, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder today after a fatal drunk driving crash in December 2024 that killed another driver.

Court documents revealed that Begay, 39, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was driving 107 miles per hour with a blood alcohol level of .239 when he crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Begay now faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing for the crash. The announcement was made by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office.

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Farmington Resident Agency, with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is prosecuting the case.
