The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced it will host a series of virtual public meetings next week to discuss three proposed rules aimed at modernizing nuclear regulations. These rulemakings support the objectives of the ADVANCE Act of 2024 and Executive Order 14300.

The meetings will provide an overview of the proposed rules and allow participants to ask questions. The first meeting, on July 13 from 1-2:30 pm, will cover "Modernizing Security Requirements," following its Federal Register notice publication on June 26.

A session on "Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal" is scheduled for July 14, 1-2:30 pm, after its Federal Register notice was published on July 1. The final meeting, "Modernizing Materials Licensing," will take place on July 15 from 10:30 am-12 pm, with its notice published on June 24. All meetings will be held via Microsoft Teams.

The NRC, established to protect public health, safety, and security and regulate civilian nuclear material use, is collaborating with interagency partners to streamline activities and enhance efficiency through these reforms.
