Newsweek is reporting that federal judges are increasingly fortifying their homes with safe rooms, changing routes and installing panic buttons due to rising threats. It said these precautions are designed to protect them physically and ensure they can make decisions without fear, drawing a parallel to President Donald Trump's enhanced security at his new White House ballroom complex.
Newsweek also said that while the conventional fear is that Vladimir Putin will directly attack NATO, Russia's influence is at work in less overt ways.
Separately, Newsweek is reporting that new technologies have amplified militants' capacity to carry out attacks and broadened the range of potential targets since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It also highlighted a historical detail from Sept. 2, 2001, noting that Mohammed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi purchased razor blades at a Winn-Dixie in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and Atta instructed his men to shout "Allahu Akbar" and wear socks that stay up.
In other coverage, Newsweek said that women often face the need to compromise their careers if they also wish to have children. It also reported that Senator Ed Markey secured his Democratic primary win despite his stance on trans athletes, a position it said most of his state rejects.
