The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider significant changes to hunting regulations, including limiting hunters to one antlered deer permit per calendar year, at its upcoming meeting on June 12 in North Platte.
Agency Wildlife staff are recommending this change, alongside proposals to shorten the spring turkey season and reduce nonresident spring personal permit limits. The public is invited to attend the meeting, which begins at 8 a.m. Central time at Mid-Plains Community College North Campus.
In other news, the Commission has launched a survey to gather feedback from tent and RV campers on their experiences and preferences for state parks, with a deadline of June 22. Additionally, Nebraskaland Magazine is celebrating its 100th anniversary this month, inviting celebrations through a centennial issue and a special exhibit at the Durham Museum running from June 20 to October 18, 2026.
Landowners are encouraged to enroll their property in the voluntary Open Fields and Waters (OFW) program by June 17 to allow public walk-in access for hunting, trapping, and fishing, offering financial incentives. The program saw 97% landowner return in 2025, encompassing over 471,000 acres.
Upcoming events include Rock Creek Trail Days, live music at Mahoney State Park starting June 5, and a special illuminated night at Smith Falls on June 13, providing diverse outdoor recreation opportunities across Nebraska.
