Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, alongside City Council members, will announce the city's inaugural Capital Infrastructure Program on Monday, May 4, addressing decades of systemic underfunding for critical public assets. This new program aims to build and maintain essential infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, parks, curb ramps, and public buildings, a standard practice in other major American cities that Los Angeles has historically lacked. For over thirty years, the absence of such a program has resulted in inadequate funding for infrastructure projects and the upkeep of city facilities and public spaces. Mayor Bass is initiating this program to move away from the previous system and ensure better design, maintenance, and delivery of infrastructure for Angelenos.
