Secretary of State Marco Rubio has extended heartfelt support and best wishes to the people of Burma as they celebrate the Thingyan festival and Burma’s New Year. In a statement released on April 13, 2025, Rubio acknowledged the sorrow and devastation caused by the recent March 28 earthquake, stating, "The United States stands in solidarity with the people of Burma during this challenging time."

Rubio affirmed the U.S. commitment to providing lifesaving humanitarian aid and supporting recovery efforts in collaboration with the international community. He praised the courage and generosity of the Burmese people, noting that "the spirit of Thingyan reminds us of the possibility of renewal and the hope for a better tomorrow."

The United States, he said, remains committed to supporting efforts to restore Burma’s path to democracy and will continue to collaborate on peace and security in the region. Rubio concluded, "May this Thingyan bring Burma’s people hope and strength in the new year."
