A federal grand jury in Rhode Island has indicted four individuals, including a former programs counselor and two former detainees, for their alleged involvement in a scheme to smuggle a Schedule I controlled substance into the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility. The charges stem from a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute MDMB-4en-PINACA, a synthetic cannabinoid.
Adrina Hamrick Cannon, 51, of Cranston, RI, a former Wyatt counselor, and Bernice Carvalho, 25, of Boston, MA, are charged with providing contraband to a prison inmate. Former detainees Randy Diaz-Pizarro, 34, and Jaquori Lyons, 28, both of Boston, MA, face charges for obtaining contraband while incarcerated. All four are also charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of a controlled substance.
According to charging documents, between June 25, 2024, and July 10, 2025, Hamrick Cannon and Carvalho allegedly provided paper containing MDMB-4en-PINACA to Diaz-Pizarro and Lyons. Both Diaz-Pizarro and Lyons were federal detainees from Massachusetts cases at the time of the alleged offenses. Diaz-Pizarro is currently serving a 120-month sentence for drug and firearm offenses, while Lyons is awaiting trial on drug, firearm, and racketeering charges.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and members of the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Center Professional Standards Unit. Assistant United States Attorney Denise M Barton is prosecuting the case. A federal indictment is an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
