Governor Kay Ivey will break ground Friday on the historic Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project in Mobile, Alabama.
Earlier this week, Ivey announced her formal authorization to start construction on the project. With a construction cost of $3.2 billion, the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway is the largest transportation project in Alabama history and, according to the Governor's office, is necessary to support Alabama's Gulf Coast region and beyond.
Joining Ivey at the groundbreaking will be U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt, Congressmen Shomari Figures and Barry Moore, Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis and University of South Alabama President Jo Bonner, among others.
The event will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time at Cooper Riverside Park, directly behind the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf, at 155 S. Water Street in Mobile.
Media planning to attend must RSVP to Communications Director Gina Maiola by 8:00 a.m. Friday and arrive inside Cooper Riverside Park no later than 10:15 a.m. Parking is located in the Mobile Convention Center garage, with media entering on the north side of the park.
