The White House is reporting that Election Day is Nov. 3, 2026, and it is urging Americans to confirm their voter registration and prepare to cast ballots. It said registration is one of the most important rights every American citizen holds and that deadlines in many states are only days away.

It said registration deadlines vary widely by state. Tennessee's deadline is Monday, Oct. 5; North Carolina's is Friday, Oct. 9, at 5 p.m.; New Jersey's is Tuesday, Oct. 13; Connecticut's is Friday, Oct. 16, for online or mail registration; and New York's is Saturday, Oct. 24, for ballots received by that date.

The White House said early voting and mail ballot requests generally open in mid-to-late October, with many states setting deadlines to request a mail or absentee ballot. It said polls open across the country on Election Day and urged voters to check their polling place hours before going.

It outlined four steps for voters: check registration and update records after a move or name change, choose whether to vote in person on Election Day, early or by mail, find an assigned polling place because locations can change between elections, and confirm state identification rules before arriving.

The White House said Vote.gov offers guidance for new U.S. citizens, military service members and their families, Americans living abroad, voters with disabilities and those turning 18 soon. It said voting problems can be reported to the Department of Justice and that local election offices are often seeking paid poll workers.
