George Mason University is celebrating a record-breaking semester with the arrival of over 7,400 incoming undergraduate students, marking a new high for enrollment. Thousands of these new students gathered at EagleBank Arena for the New Student Convocation, officially commencing their academic journey.
Beyond the growing student body, the university is expanding its global reach and offering unique opportunities. George Mason's Quantum Science and Engineering Center (QSEC) recently signed a memorandum of understanding with two prominent Korean quantum organizations, the Future Quantum Convergence Forum and the QCI Quantum-AI Convergence Center, strengthening its presence in South Korea.
Students are also gaining practical experience through diverse programs. Rising senior Zaakir Khan, a George Mason ice hockey defenseman, completed an internship with Major League Rugby team Old Glory DC during their playoff run. Additionally, summer camps across Virginia campuses provided high school and undergraduate students with hands-on experience in emerging technologies, promoting responsible innovation.
The university community is also preparing for IVth Night, a back-to-school carnival on Thursday, August 27, at 6 p.m. on the RAC Field, featuring entertainment and a men's soccer game followed by fireworks.
