Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today declared that Lineage and Chill Build do not deserve to rebuild, citing their repeated failures to clean up food waste in Boyle Heights and East LA. The Mayor has also called on City lawyers to pursue litigation, a lien, and all legal options for cost recovery and penalties against the companies.
Mayor Bass stated, "At every turn, Lineage has failed to meet its responsibility to this community and to provide meaningful support to residents and small businesses." City personnel found food waste inside the warehouse earlier today, despite Lineage missing an August 14 deadline. The City plans another inspection tomorrow.
Bass emphasized the ongoing suffering of affected residents, saying, "The families and small businesses of Boyle Heights and East LA are the ones who continue to suffer every day this mess isn’t cleaned up." The city has provided extensive support, including temporary housing for over 1,300 people, mobile health clinics, air purifiers, masks, food, and financial assistance.
