The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) today announced significant new and expanded features for its Business Tax Account (BTA) platform, offering eligible businesses and organizations more secure and convenient ways to manage federal tax obligations online. These enhancements aim to streamline processes, allowing users to view digital notices, make payments, and access tax account information without needing phone calls or office visits.
IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano said, "Business Tax Account is a key part of the agency’s digital first initiative. By expanding online self-service options, BTA makes it easier for eligible businesses and organizations to manage their federal tax obligations securely and conveniently online without making a phone call or traveling to physical office." New features include access to an expanding library of digital IRS notices, such as CP081B, CP211A, and CP134R. Designated officials can also now download an EIN verification notice (CP575) for use with financial institutions.
Eligible taxpayers can now view existing payment plan balances, make payments towards those plans, and submit payments for an Offer in Compromise. The BTA supports various organizational types, including sole proprietors with an EIN, individual partners or shareholders with a Schedule K-1, S and C corporations, federal, state, local, and Indian tribal governments, and tax-exempt organizations.
Within BTA, users can view and make payments, schedule future payments, review processed payments, store multiple bank accounts, request tax compliance checks, and view business name and address details. They can also grant account access to eligible employees and view or download transcripts for various tax returns and certain digital notices. The IRS plans to add more capabilities in the future, expanding access to additional business and organizational entities to make BTA a more robust online self-service platform.
